Charlene Cross is a middle-schooler at Craven's Hallow Junior High. She is constantly picked on and teased by her fellow classmates, especially a boy named Bobby. Seeing as she has just turned thirteen, she decides that this year she is going to stand up for herself and do something to change everyone's opinions of her. She is going to go, with her friend Christine, where only the brave venture. The haunted woods, called Hallow's End, where an evil scarecrow resides.
